What we're up to... .

Math - We are working on two and three digit subtraction with borrowing. We are also working on solving word problems with addition (with regrouping) and subtraction (with borrowing).
Reading - We are back to working with fiction books this quarter. We have been practicing making inferences, asking questions before, during and after reading, and making connections to what we are reading. Types of connections: text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world.
Writing - The students have been really working hard during writer's workshop. They made a story board, wrote a rough draft, edited, revised, and are now working on their final drafts and illustrations! Wow... what great stories!
Science - We are studying "states of matter." We have been experimenting with water evaporation, mixing solids and liquids, and making predictions and conducting experiments just like scientists do!
Phonics - We are working on learning vowel teams (oa, oe, ow). Make sure your child is studying his/her spelling words because these go along with our phonics units.
S.S. - our next unit will be Economics (consumers and producers).

Valentine's and track-out!!

Reminder: We will exchange Valentine's cards tomorrow morning.
Track out is tomorrow. Check your child's Friday Folder for optional activities to complete over track-out. Also, make sure your child reads over track-out!
See you back on March 8th!!

Writer's Celebration!

Friday we had our writing celebration. Each student read his/her "small moment" writing piece to the class. We celebrated our achievements with goldfish and juice. Here are a few pictures.

The Garden

We went to the school garden this week to help weed between the rows. Most of the harvesting is finished for now so we are beginning to winterize the garden. The students had a great time pulling weeds!
